Tallinn University of Technology

There are a number of laboratories and departments at the Tallinn University of Technology that are engaged in basic and applied projects focused on geological materials and a wider reuse and utilization of waste ash as raw material – mineral resource covering the following directions:

- Carbonate rocks, phosphorites and oil shale resource geology;
- Metal, including REE resource geology;
- Mining innovation activities;
- Backfilling and mining;
- Building materials;
- Road construction, soil stabilization;
- Agricultural use: Soil liming;
- Sorbents for phosphorus capture;
- Filler for polymeric materials;
- New products: Precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) and sorbents;

- Reuse of organic-rich waste in chemical industry.

Estonian mining research is focussed on oil shale, aggregate, peat and phosphate rock mining related topics. Additionally granite, shale, limestone mining, usage of mined out areas, water usage, environmental solutions, mining waste and social problems related to geotechnology are our interests.
